The Athenaeum has been part of Acadia student life since it was first founded in 1874. The paper is written, edited and managed by students. All student are welcome to join the staff of the paper, or individually submit their own work, with no experience being necessary. Submission to The Athenaeum is open to all students and members of the Acadia community. Writing for The Athenaeum can take on a multitude of different forms, including local or campus new, pieces representing student perspectives and opinions, creative writing and more.
Articles submitted will be published at the discretion of the Editorial Board. If there is content that we feel will not add to the philosophy, dialogue, or tone of our newspaper, it will not be published. That being said, all of our staff members look forward to working together with writers to improve the quality of their writing and maintain our standards as a newspaper.
The opinions expressed herein do not represent the Acadia Student’s Union or the staff of The Athenaeum. These perspectives are held by the individuals who contribute to The Athenaeum as essential members of our student-run newspaper.
The Athenaeum would like to acknowledge that our office resides and our production takes place on Mi’kmaqi, the ancestral and unceded territories of the Mi’kmaq people. We make this acknowledgement to pay respect to the keepers of the land, and to help fulfill our responsibility to view our own colonial history and their present-day implications through a critical lens.
