DISRUPT’18 is being held on Friday, March 2nd 2018. The DISRUPT conference is an annual student-led business symposium at Acadia University where speakers from a variety of industries converge on campus to share their ideas and experiences with students. DISRUPT aims to start conversations that will lead to conclusions around what disruptive motivators are, how they can influence disruption in daily routines, and how to adapt to these disruptions. Students will have the chance to hear from leading industry professionals, entrepreneurs, marketers, and speakers from many more exciting fields. DISRUPT is an interactive conference as we encourage conversation and interaction between the students and speakers. This year we are so excited to include a complete LinkedIn workshop put on by manager Laura Mason, Head from LinkedIn Sales Solutions. After the conference concludes, there will be a networking session at the Axe.
DISRUPT aims to provide students with answers about past, present, and future disruptive changes and influences across industries. For example, a few questions that will be addressed by speakers are:
- What technology or trend is creating the most disruption in your industry?
- What motivated you to disrupt your career path/ industry?
- What challenges are you currently scared of/ motivated/ excited by?
- What aspect of the world today is most in need of disruption?
- What apps/ technology has most changed the way you work over the past year?
We are thrilled about this year’s speaker line up, and you should be too! Back by popular demand is Dave Culligan. Dave owns and operates his own production company, Threesixfive Media Inc. that pairs dynamic video content with unique distribution strategies. Another exciting entrepreneur we cannot wait to have join us is Sean Myles, Founder of the Annapolis Cider Company. We also can’t wait to hear from The Social Shift. The Social Shift is a group of individuals who developed a documentary that tells the story of business for the common good. Their documentary focuses on how business is shifting from profit driven to progress driven, and how more people are striving for work that can help them contribute to a better world. Skyping in with us from Huanchaco Peru will be Amy Schwartz. As the co-Founder of Unleash Surf, Amy has built the world’s first company that exclusively caters to remote-working surfers. Unleash takes you to non-touristy places with everything a remote-working surfer needs: excellent wifi, fun waves, minimal crowds, captivating culture, a co-working space, your own apartment and great people to hang out with. These are only to name a few! Check out the Acadia Business Society or DISRUPT Facebook page for more information on the event, tickets, and more!
