Sport and Recreation at Acadia – Options For Students

If you’re an Acadia student looking for fitness, sport, and recreation opportunities, the Acadia community has lots to offer, and not just for varsity-level athletes and sports. For Acadia students and Wolfville community members, the Athletics Complex offers a wide range of fitness and recreation opportunities in addition to the fitness centre, which is available by appointment for drop in sessions. Depending on the season, these include public skating, lap swimming, open swim, aquafit, spinning, the walking track, the basketball court, squash and racquetball, and HIT and cardio classes. To book, visit the Acadia Recreation page on the Athletics Complex website.

Intramurals are also a great way to stay active, but do not demand the same intensive time commitment as varsity sports do. Intramurals offer excellent opportunities to experience and try out new sports and activities and to help maintain a healthy active lifestyle. In past years, intramural opportunities at Acadia have included ringette, rugby, soccer, spinning, yoga, and hockey.

With the onset of the pandemic, Acadia recreation and intramurals have operated differently in the past two years. Beginning in the 2020-2021 school year, Acadia offered alternative and modified recreation in accordance with Nova Scotia’s Return To Sport and Return To Campus guidelines. In addition to intramurals, these included fitness boot camps and one-night recreation and sporting events offered on a weekly basis.

Presently, volleyball and basketball are available as intramurals to students in the War Memorial gym. The current schedule is as follows:

Volleyball: Monday 9:45-11pm, Saturday 7-9pm, Sunday 7-9pm

Basketball: Friday 9-11pm, Saturday 5-7pm

These activities are on a first come first serve basis, except for Friday basketball and Monday volleyball, which require students to sign up using the Acadia online legend services through the recreation web page. No experience is necessary.
