Vice President of Events and Promotions: Soyini Edwards

My name is Soyini Edwards, and I am running for VP Events and Promotions for the 2020-2021 school year at Acadia University. I am a fourth-year International student from Nassau, Bahamas, majoring in Political Science. Throughout my time at Acadia, I have held many leadership roles to continue to enhance the students’ lives and students’ experiences. Currently, I serve as the Diversity and Inclusion Representative of the ASU. In this role, I advocate for the rights and needs of students, and I sit on various committees to voice student concerns and continuously improve Acadia University. I am also the Photography Manager at the Athenaeum, and in this role, I have interacted with a plethora of amazing students with beautiful stories they are passionate about. Having the opportunity to capture the beautiful moments within students’ lives is a huge motivation for me.

Additionally, I am the current President of the Black Students’ Association. On this platform, I work diligently to bridge the gap between races here on campus and show our solidarity with everyone. Through each position, I have gained wonderful relationships with both the students and the faculty here at Acadia. My goal is to not only host and promote events but to facilitate an environment where students have the ability to build meaningful relationships. I want to have great collaborative efforts between different departments at Acadia to ensure that all students have an opportunity to feel truly welcomed through every event that is hosted.

The position of VP Promotion and events calls for someone who is versed in not only communicating online, handling the social media platform, but also an individual who is capable and comfortable in creating relationships that would benefit this University and Acadia students. The skills that I have attained through my involvement during my four years at Acadia has equipped me to make a change and better the Acadia experience for all students.

Vice President of Events and Promotions: Blake Steeves

Blake Steeves is a business student that will be entering his third year at Acadia with a major in marketing. Blake has worked with the Acadia Students Union for a total of two years, beginning as the First Year Officer on the Students Representatives Council and most recently as House Council President for Chase Court. These jobs have helped him develop attributes and skills that would help him in the role of Vice President of Events and Promotions. He has strong programming skills and excels at promoting events all over campus.

Blake moved to Acadia from Fredericton, New Brunswick. In his spare time, he enjoys playing guitar, watching football and going fishing with his buddies.

His main goals for the upcoming year as Vice President Events and Promotions is to include a more diversified set of events, provide students with an improved system for receiving event notifications and re-establish Acadia as a spirited school at sporting events and other social gatherings.

Vice President Events & Promotions: Gabrielle Bailey

After an incredible year with the ASU, I have decided to seek re-election for Vice President Events & Promotions! It has been an incredible growth opportunity and provided me with a platform to advocate for students and give them the experiences and information that they need to be successful, whatever their definition of success is. VPEP is a role that gives you the ability to execute the things that Acadia students will remember for the rest of their lives. The experiences, the memories, the friends you make, the jobs you get, the things you see, the annoying emails you receive.

Moving forward, I know that effective communication, networking, and collaboration among all groups and parties within the Acadia community is key to growth and success. Taking that concept and applying it with creativity, enthusiasm, and adapting based on experience and the ever-changing environment, will be at the forefront of my term in office. The Acadia community is both strong and spirited, thriving in tradition and innovation, making it versatile and steadfast. At Acadia, we have many brilliant minds, cultures, skills, niches, and ideas. We must continually expand upon this, evolve as things change around us, and always keep the Acadia feeling alive not just within us, but the students to come.
